The pattern of the IBPS / SBI Bank Clerk and Probationary Officer Exam is:

Written exam will consist of objective type questions. The following are the areas to be prepared consist of each 40 questions and 40 marks (carry one mark a question), total 200 questions and 200 marks. Total time provided for this online exam is 2 hours (120 minutes).

The pattern and process is followed by IBPS & SBI for Clerical and Officer Exam is same, the only thing is questions difficulty level is moderate in clerical but officer cadre difficulty level is high and in numerical ability they are asking Data Interpretation.

  • Test of English Language
  • Test of Numerical Ability
  • Test of General Awareness
  • Test of Computer Knowledge
  • Test of Marketing Aptitude (Only in SBI)

Test of Reasoning :

In this section you will get all the reasoning type questions and for this you will get about 30 minutes to attempt it. This is a good scoring for the student of non-math as it contains non-math questioning.

Test of Numerical Ability :

This section includes: Decimal fractions, simplifications, Averages, Simple interest, Percentages, Profit and loss, Number series, Data sufficiency and etc. In this section you will get the following:

  • 15-20 questions is of simplifications
  • 3-4 questions from Numerical series
  • 5 questions is of data sufficiency (optional)
  • Other questions from arithmetic topics

Test of General Awareness :

This section is related to the general awareness with particular reference to the Banking industry.

Test of Computer Knowledge :

It is related to the basic information of computer field and related to it.

Test of Marketing Aptitude (Only in SBI)

It is related to the basic knowledge in marketing.

Negative Marking :

While each wrong answer there will be 0.25 marks get reduced. There will be no penalty if you choose to leave a question

Score Card :

Each area minimum cutoff will be followed candidate who clear the individual cutoff and total cutoff only get score card from the IBPS.

Common Interview :

After clearing the Common Written Exam, Common interview will be conducted candidate who clear the interview will get appointment order from the bank.

Indian Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts the Common Written Exam (CEW) as a qualifying exam for banking jobs in 20 nationalized banks and some Private banks in India. IBPS decided to conduct exams for recruitment of Clerk, Probationary Officer/Management Trainee and Specialist Officers exams once in a year. Apart from IBPS, State Bank of India and its associates recruit separately. For writing this exam the candidates need to meet certain eligibility criteria. They are

Nationality :


Educational qualification (For Clerk and Probationary officer) :

A degree in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government

Age (For Clerk) :

Minimum 20 Years; Maximum 28 Years

Age (For Probationary Officers) :

Minimum 20 Years; Maximum 30 Years

The maximum age limit specified is applicable to General Category candidates.

Relaxation of Upper Age limit

  • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe : 5 years
  • Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) : 3 years
  • Persons With Disabilities : 10 years
  • Ex-Servicemen, Commissioned Officers including\Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs)/ Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) who have rendered at least 5 years military service and have been released on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within 5 years the stipulated time) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency or physical disability attributable to military service or invalidment: 5 years
  • Persons ordinarily domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the 1980 to 31.12.1989 : 5 years
  • Persons affected by 1984 riots : 5 years
  • Persons who have completed 5 years of service in RRBs: 5 years
